State and local agencies are facing ever greater need for traffic information but are faced with tight budget constraints. TrafInfo is helping state and local agencies leverage more out of their traffic signals by helping them use existing signalized intersections also as a source of continuous traffic counts. This is done by utilizing existing detection systems for traffic data collection in addition to their normal function of actuated signal control. Trafinfo has taken this basic functionality of traffic data collection at signalized intersections to a whole new level of real-time monitoring of vehicular delays by combining the traffic data with signal timing information on a cycle-by-cycle basis and estimating delays by lane using procedures within the Highway Capacity Manual.
